Earth Stewardship and Radical Hospitality at Camrec
Camp Camrec Director Brisa Peacock shares her gratitude for the ways that Camp Camrec has been able to offer space for radical hospitality and sacred rest. Camrec has hosted or connected not only with in the Mennonite community but to interfaith and ecumenical groups, near neighbors and far, welcoming many for whom their experience at camp Camrec is the first time they’ve experienced wilderness retreat.
Brisa also laments the ways that in its original creation of recreational space Camrec destroyed wetlands to make its meadow. Now, that past action is providing the opportunity to seek reconciliation with the earth, repair harm and be an example along with others doing the same kind of repair work. In addition to wetland restoration, Camrec is also bringing fire stewardship back to its care for forests, listening to ancient ways of indigenous earth-keepers.
