Support for Global Mission
Many of us heard Kathryn Smith Derksen speak with eloquent conviction during our worship service on September 6. She presented us with a full and riveting picture of both the need and opportunity for peacemaking that exists in South Africa. It is into this ministry that she and Dan are called and are presently making plans to engage with through Mennonite Mission Network. They are still in need of resources to make this ministry a reality. Please contact one of the people on their Ministry Support Team – Paul Brown, Annette Hein, and Karina Derksen-Schrock to learn ways that you can help, or pick up a mission card at the welcome table for more information.
MCA Accommodations: The Inn At Moses Lake is again offering us a $59.99 deal on rooms. Please call them to reserve one of the 10 rooms set aside for us. (509) 766-7000. Tell them if it is for Oct. 2 or 3, or both, under Donna Matthies name or “Mennonite Auction”. Rooms will be released on Sept. 24.
EMC Coffee booth: Please let Donna Matthies know if you can come Friday afternoon to help set up the EMC coffee booth, or stay after on Sat. afternoon to help take everything down.
The Kid’s Booth needs your donations of gently used toys, books, puzzles, art supplies, etc… Please bring them to church or contact Kate Yoder if you need other arrangements or have any questions.
The crafts booth is asking for items to sell. What have you made this year? Sewing, yarn work, beads, paper crafts, anything at all will be greatly appreciated. Items can be left at Seattle Mennonite Church by Sept. 20th or given to Anita Stokes (206-721-1902) by the 29th, or brought to the sale the day of.
Auction items: Do you have wood crafted items you have made or other items you have created? What about antique items, Seahawk tickets, opera tickets or vacation rentals? We’d love to auction those off! The sooner we know of an item, the more publicity it will get! Please notify Cleon Claassen at 509-765-9475 or email him at cclaassen@smwireless.net. We need your items!
As nature prepares for winter slumber, we also experience a rhythmic cycle of turning inward. Like the seed underground, people may not perceive from the outside the inner work that is happening when we acknowledge our grief of the changing seasons while yet embracing those shifts with fortitude and grace. The worship series envisioned for October to November, “Turning of the Season: Healing for the Soul” seeks to create a place of holding both the darker shades of life with the beauty of this season as we join in support and challenge of one another as a community. In this series, I particularly welcome stories from the congregation of how they have experienced healing personally, or witnessed transformation in others.
Focuses for Sundays, October 4 through November 22
October 4: Healing of body and soul November 1: Healing of the demonic
October 11: Healing of the nations November 8: Healing of alienation
October 18: Healing of the earth November 15: Healing of neighbor
October 25: Healing of community November 22: Gratitude for healing and wholeness
